Startup People Operations Consultant

Countsy is looking for a senior hands-on HR professional who can manage the day-to-day HR needs for multiple clients at a time. Our People Operations Consultant will have proven experience developing and implementing all People operations processes and policies for startups. The ideal candidate will have the experience, knowledge and poise to be regarded as a trusted HR manager for our clients. You must be in tune with market conditions and industry trends and advise clients accordingly. You will need to be extremely organized with incredible attention to detail to be successful in this type of dynamic and demanding role. This position requires exceptional multi-tasking abilities, sound judgement and a sense of urgency. Work can be largely performed virtually, but you may occasionally need to travel to the customer sites as required. 

Major Responsibilities

  • Serve as an HR Manager and People Operations expert for clients 

  • Play the role of HR Project Manager for your assigned clients on all HR tasks and projects per the defined proposal.  Clearly understand and define the scope of work, tools and skill sets needed, resources required, and estimated time needed to deliver tasks and projects, communicate status updates, and then ensure on-time delivery and excellent quality of work

  • Work with Countsy’s HR Operations Manager to assign an HR Operations team member to each client depending on client needs, required experience and availability

  • Act as primary point of contact and the liaison between Countsy’s Technology Center in Sacramento and the client to resolve all urgent and time sensitive People issues

  • Partner with client on customizing policies and employee handbooks as needed taking into consideration local and state laws

  • Manage employee relations issue as needed for clients. Provide guidance on immediate action items, templates and tools for corrective action, performance plans, involuntary terminations, separation agreements, and then ensure compliant resolution and follow through

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the client's business needs and culture to better support the client's People needs and be able to plan for your own workload

  • Seek and communicate opportunities for improvement in Countsy’s internal execution and processes in order to improve customer delivery 

  • Use Countsy’s internal systems and productivity tools as required for email and chat, capturing client information, project and task management, knowledge sharing, and tracking billable hours

  • Guide and assist client with selection and implementation of HRIS and benefits systems and help in the transition from one system to another or in the transition off of a PEO

  • Work with client and benefits broker on defining and implementing their initial benefits and perks offerings as well as with the execution of annual benefit renewals, retirement plans, and any added benefits

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required, HR professional certification would be preferred

  • 7+ years of experience with progressive Human Resources Generalist responsibility including experience supporting executive teams directly on all things People Operations: onboarding, performance management, HR systems, policies, benefits, immigration, required training, compliance, onboarding and offboarding

  • HR experience in varying industries in both startup and big company environments would be helpful

  • Must be highly organized and have excellent project management skills

  • Experience working in an organization with HR Centers of Excellence or in a Shared Services organization would be helpful

  • Must be resourceful and action-oriented with a proven ability to work independently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced startup environments with minimal to no supervision

  • Proven track record of creating and building HR programs, processes and policies for scale as well as orchestrating the roll out of such programs to employees

  • Strong knowledge of employment law, compliance, HR systems, benefits administration, performance management, basic employee relations, and the ability to research and find answers, offer logical and sometimes creative solutions, and apply your knowledge in a practical way to the client’s unique situation

  • Must be comfortable and confident with public speaking to roll out programs to employees and conduct trainings as required

  • Comfortable with various HR systems and technologies to be able to advise clients on the best solution for their needs and help clients implement or transition to new HR tools and technologies as required 

  • Highly developed conflict resolution and communication skills with all levels of an organization, ability to give and receive constructive feedback to co-workers as well as to executives, and the ability to influence at all levels

  • The successful candidate will be extremely professional and discreet with an approachable personality

  • Must be able to travel to customer sites within the Bay Area and our Sacramento office as-needed, and travel to clients outside of the Bay Area if needed.
